A Gripping Blog

We tend to take it for granted that we are able to style our hair, open a jar, apply make-up, handwrite a letter & brush our teeth.

That is, until we lose that dexterity.

So if you, or someone you know, are having difficulties with their grip – be it permanent through arthritis, or temporary through injury – these top tips can be shared with them to help keep their mouths feeling fresh & healthy.

Top tip no.1 – Try an electric Toothbrush.

The width of Electric toothbrush handles make them easier to hold & the brush sweeps the plaque away without you needing to make a small circle movement.

Clinical evidence suggests Braun OralB professional care electric toothbrushes are particularly effective, due to the oscillating rotating movement.

Never used one before? We have one you can try! Just let us know & at your next appointment we can show you how to use it effectively & with confidence.

Top tip no.2 – Adapting a manual toothbrush handle.

The brand ‘TePe’ invented a specialized reusable grip that fits their range of toothbrush handles. This also fits their single tufted toothbrushes & long handled interdental brushes so you can continue to remove plaque from between your teeth.

Alternatively there are many Do It Yourself options; a tennis ball, a rubber band or even a bicycle handle can all be used to adapt the handle.

These D.I.Y options can also be used for make-up brushes, pens or paintbrushes!
