Professor Vas Sivarajasingam

Professor Vaseekaran Sivarajasingam is a nationally respected leader in Oral Surgery, serving as Professor of Oral Surgery at Cardiff University and Consultant Oral Surgeon at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. As Oral Surgery Programme and District General Hospital Lead, he is responsible for shaping the direction and development of Oral Surgery within Cardiff University’s BDS curriculum.

Elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2018, Professor Sivarajasingam has made significant contributions to postgraduate Oral Surgery training in the UK. His leadership roles include Speciality Advisor for Oral Surgery in Wales (since 2016), former Chair of the Speciality Training Committee and Training Programme Director (2013–2019). He is also an experienced examiner for the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Examination (2019–2023) and the Diploma of Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties (since 2011). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

As Clinical Director of the University Dental Hospital, he leads teams of clinicians and managers in delivering high-quality dental services, with a strong focus on patient safety, clinical outcomes, and collaborative service design.

Professor Sivarajasingam also chairs key national groups, including the Welsh Government’s National Oral Surgery Strategic Advisory Forum (SAF) and the Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine Managed Clinical Network (MCN). Under his leadership, these bodies have enhanced cooperation across health boards in Wales, improving access and outcomes in oral healthcare.

His interdisciplinary research contributions include work with the Cardiff University Violence Research Group, which was recognised as ‘world leading’ in the Research Assessment Exercise and awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in 2010.
