Dr Jo Saele was born in Norway and raised in South Wales. He is proudly both Welsh and Norwegian

University during which time he was awarded the Margaret Probert Prize. He then went on to
complete further study at the Royal College of Surgeons, London. Following this he was awarded
with the DTR Medical Innovations Award at the All Wales Medical symposium (first dentist to win
this award). He then went on to work in general practice providing both NHS and private treatment
in Cardiff city centre. During his time as a general dentist he completed further training in facial
aesthetic treatments, using botox and dermal fillers at the Royal College of General Practitioners in
London. He was also the first dentist in Wales to be certified to use the ClearSmile Brace system and
went on to becoming a comprehensive Invisalign provider. Dr Jo Saele then embarked on a one-year
postgraduate training program on dental implants at Guy’s College. Following this he then
completed further study at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.
Having developed an interest in advanced restorative dentistry, Dr Jo Saele completed a clinical
externship at the University of Minnesota, USA. This fuelled his passion to strive for perfection in the
treatments he was able to provide and results he was able to achieve. He therefore commenced a
three year full time postgraduate clinical doctorate in Prosthodontics (the highest academic
qualification available) at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. During his time in Ireland he was trained in
the analysis and treatment of patients requiring complex fixed and removable prosthodontics. These
treatments included combinations of; dental implants, veneers, crowns, bridges, full and partial
dentures. Cases treated by Dr Jo Saele regularly involved complex full mouth rehabilitations, severe
tooth wear, treatment of missing teeth and cosmetic smile makeovers.
As part of his clinical doctorate Dr Jo Saele undertook research involving the oral health of elite
athletes in Ireland. This was the first study of its kind in Ireland and he had the privilege of working
with both amateur and professional athletes that were World champions and Olympians. During this
time, Dr Jo Saele also completed a postgraduate certificate in intravenous conscious sedation to help
manage and treat anxious patients. Having completed his three year clinical doctorate in
Prosthodontics he was accepted to sit his specialty exams in Prosthodontics at the Royal College of
Surgeons, Ireland and was accepted onto the Specialist dental register for Prosthodontics here in the
United Kingdom.
Dr Jo Saele has now returned to live and work in South Wales. Alongside a busy working schedule he
lectures both nationally and internationally, sharing his knowledge and expertise on topics such as;
implant dentistry, digital dentistry, tooth wear, full and partial dentures, veneers and dental
photography. Outside of dentistry is an avid rugby supporter and fan having himself played
international rugby union for Norway, and competed in the Northern European League. He also
enjoys skiing, hiking and now enjoying an international match day at the Principality stadium.
